What educators are saying

It's such a great resource to use. It ensured my students were engaging with the movie and not daydreaming. They enjoyed seeing some of the artifacts in the film we studied about history.
I love this resource. It was simple for my students. I adjusted it so that it fit on half a page to save space (front and back) BTW Answer key for the first question is wrong. It should be the third option.

Description

This is a video guide handout for, the first "National Treasure" starring Nicholas Cage. This is the movie where Benjamin Gates, played by Cage, steals the Declaration of Independence in order to save it.

2004 Rated PG 2 hours 11 minutes

My kids love watching this movie after we have studied the Declaration of Independence. While the movie is not what I'd really call 'educational' it is a way to connect what students have learned to something they've studied. I usually show the movie as a reward or on an early release day.

It has been my experience that if students do not have anything to do during a video, they do not pay attention. However, if you have them take notes or answer questions with written answers, they are too distracted. The purpose of a video should be to enhance learned material. I use these questions as a guide to make sure students are paying attention, but in a format that is simple enough that they are able to absorb (and enjoy!) the information in the video. All they have to do is listen for the answer and circle/highlight it. This usually keeps them on their toes!
