What educators are saying

This has been so helpful when writing the written commentaries. It helps to organize my thoughts and write in a neat, concise way.
This is a great bundle of resources for anyone starting their NBCT journey. It has really helped me get organized as I start to plan for completing my components this year. Thank you!

    Description

This National Boards Bundle supports Components 2-4. Looking to do all the components in one year (we did!) or even break them apart across a series of years, but looking for support to help you understand it all? This is for you!

    This bundle has:

    Component 2

    1. Wrapping your Head Around it All (C2) - this resource takes you through the expectations of this component step by step and make sure that you know what is expected of you.

    2. Component 2 Sentence Frames - This gives you a series of 44 sentence frames specific to component 2 that will support your analysis. It's broken down into frames for each of the 5 categories that National Boards expects you to show evidence of in this component.

    3. Student Tracking Guide - This walks you through the elements you should include when preparing to create resources and analyze your student and their work. This helps you ensure that you've thought through why you chose the assignment you did, how you modified for your student's needs, and why you chose to give feedback the way you did.

    4. Component 2 Tips and Tricks!

This double sided one-pager includes the best tips and tricks for Component 4 that we have collected across years of working with this process. It includes common pitfalls that we see many candidates falling into. It also includes suggestions on specific elements to include as you plan lessons and assignments that will help you on the back-end of the component when writing the commentary. Finally there's advice around how to best revise your component, cut it down inside the page limit, and submission reminders.

    5. National Boards Component 2 - Student Information Tracking Sheet

Component 2 requires that you work with individual students (1-3 depending on the specific content area). This collecting information and tracking sheet will help you keep track of your Knowledge of Student information. It will also help you brainstorm (information from state test scores? Counselors? Specialists? etc.) and find as much information as you can about the student so that when you write your component, the richness and depth of your knowledge of your students will shine through all your commentary.

    Component 3

    1. Wrapping your Head Around it All (C3) - Walking you through each important section of the instructions, this guide asks pointed questions to help you navigate all the intricacies of this component. Throughout the guide, examples are given to show how to utilize the graphic organizers to ensure you are fully prepared to complete each specific element of this complicated component.

    2. Safe, Fair, Equitable, Challenging - this component asks you to analyze how your classroom/lessons are safe, fair, equitable, and challenging. This guide comes with questions that will help you to break each of these apart and analyze them separately with things you are already doing in your classroom.

    3. Component 3 Sentence Frames - This resource comes with 37 sentence frames that break down the 5 categories Component 3 requires you to show in your commentary.

The five included sentence frame categories are:

    • Safe, Fair, Equitable, Challenging (7 sentence frames included)

ex. By establishing _________ (procedure/process) I ensured all students were treated fairly because ___________.

    • Student Centered Learning Environment (8 frames included)
    • Monitored Student Progress (7 frames included)
    • Supported Students (5 frames included)
    • Communicate about Pedagogy and Reflect (10 frames included)

    4. Component 3 Video Planning Sheet

This Video Planning Guide walks you through the elements you should include in your lesson. It will help you make sure that you've embedded everything you need into your lesson plan so that you can answer all of the analysis questions and highlight the strong work that you are already doing as a teacher! It also includes a helpful tips, tricks, and reminders section (remember to walk through your room and remove anything that identifies your school!).

My business partner and I are both National Boards Certificated Teachers (Certified under the new system and completed the MOC) who used these resources when we went through the process. We also have experience running National Boards cohorts. These WORK and will help you frame your analysis in a clear way, but it is not a magic wand that will do the work for you. The lesson planning, substance of your analysis, and resources must still be your own based on your teaching and your students.
