This is a comprehensive poetry unit for Middle School students that is New Jersey Student Learning Standards-based and perfect for NJSLA test prep or perfect as a beginning of the year pre-test. Each question is labeled with the NJSLS. This is beneficial to both students and teachers. Students must familiarize themselves with the standards so that they become familiar with the skills they are excelling in or lacking. These three poems encourage students to analyze literary devices, vocabulary, and more.
Poems included are:
"The Rose that Grew" by Tupac Shakur
"The Echoing Green" by William Blake
"The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost
Each poem is followed by part a / part b NJSLA-LIKE questions. Use these for small group instruction, centers, or assessment.
My students really enjoyed reading the poems, especially the poem by Tupac Shakur. Hope your kids enjoy it as well.
