This is assessment 1 of 2 taught over a 2 term duration.

The assessment asks that students complete an internet research task on foods in Australia. They visit this link https://www.australiangeographic.com.au/news/2022/07/lindblad-expeditions-national-geographic-adds-four-antarctic-departures-for-2022-23-season/

9 Foods in Australia Assessment Task 2 Food Folio

(This assessment task is part of the 9 foods in Australia Bundle available on my store with a complete program, two assessments and student food folio sample).

This is assessment 2 of 2 taught over a 2 term duration.

The assessment task involves designing and constructing a multicultural pavlova, using various ingredients in the kitchen.

Multicultural in this case simply means giving a normal pavlova a different twist, for example using Turkish delight flavoured fairy floss or Moroccan ingredients to add that hint of uniqueness.

In order to support their practical pavlova creation students are required to create a design folio, including research, design sketches, process of construction and evaluation ( we usually prepare our folios in the school library and save them to the student drive).

Outcomes Assessed:

5.2.2 accounts for changes to the properties of food which occur during food processing, preparation and storage

5.4.2 communicates ideas and information using a range of media and appropriate terminology

5.5.1 selects and employs appropriate techniques and equipment for a variety of food-specific purposes

5.5.2 plans, prepares, presents and evaluates food solutions for specific purposes

Printable in word format. Easily adjustable for younger years.

Assessment and

Sample Folio included.

I look forward to hearing how it went with your class.

9 Food equity Program

Food Equity,

When you teach in a multicultural classroom like I do this program generates a lot of real discussion and opportunities to understand each other. It brings students together in their sharing of their cultural experiences of food.

Not everyone has access to the living conditions and food we do. A great program to make students aware of the conditions world wide.

Literacy and Numeracy as well as ICT Food Equity poses the question why do we have access to food that others dont?

In this unit students are able to:

-Demonstrate hygienic handling of food to ensure a safe and appealing product

-Identify, assesses and manage the risks of injury and OHS issues associated with the handling of food.

-Apply appropriate methods of food processing, preparation and storage

-Describe the relationship between food consumption, the nutritional value of foods and the health of individuals and communities.

-Justify food choices by analysing the factors that influence eating habits

-Collect, evaluates and applies information from a variety of sources

-Communicate ideas and information using a range of media and appropriate terminology

-Select and employ appropriate techniques and equipment for a variety of food-specific purposes

-Plan, prepare, present and evaluate food solutions for specific purposes

-Examine the relationship between food, technology and society

-Evaluate the impact of activities related to food on the individual, society and the environment.

An excellent program for stimulating critical thinking.

In Microsoft word format for easy editing.
