What educators are saying

These are a cute way to reinforce good behaviour during my large choral classes. Hand these out as awards. They're very cute
My students needed a little more of a push for classroom behaviors, and using the "mystery musician" idea has helped to keep them more on track throughout our time together!

What is Mystery Musician?

Mystery Musician is classroom management tool is very flexible and can be used with the rules already established in your classroom. It is a spin-off of the “Secret Student” approach used in general classrooms.

At the beginning of instruction, the teacher selects a student and keeps that student a secret from the class. If the student is misbehaving or showing good work ethic, the teacher can call it out (vaguely):

- “I like the hand placement of my mystery musician!”

- “The mystery musician has very good posture right now!”

- “I don’t think my mystery musician is making good choices at the moment.

Statements like this still keep the mystery, and it gives the students the opportunity to reflect on their own behavior and correct it if necessary.

At the end of class, if the mystery musician met expectations, they can be revealed by the teacher.

**Since music teachers often see hundreds of students per week, it might be a good idea to pick more than two mystery musicians per class.
