My Sign Language Interpreter Comprehension Questions

    Description

The goal of this bundle is to teach Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who have sign language interpreters how to use their interpreters appropriately. Many students move from residential schools or Deaf/Hard of Hearing programs into a mainstream setting and may not know how to utilize an interpreter appropriately. Additionally, some students may have an interpreter added to their services and may need assistance utilizing a sign language interpreter at school. This resource aims to teach the important skills of using a sign language interpreter at school!

    This bundle includes three parts:

    1. Two social stories: a boy version and a girl version. In these stories, these students discuss the things they can do to utilize their interpreter appropriately and be a responsible student in the classroom. The goal of these stories is for students to understand the role of their sign language interpreter in the classroom. Pages 3-9 include a boy character and pages 10-16 include a girl character. You can cut these pages out, laminate them, bind them, or present them electronically.

    2. Four checklists. These checklists include items that help monitor a student's interpreter use in the classroom. You can print these checklists out and have a daily page for your student in the data binder you use or you can print them out and laminate them and use an expo marker as a daily checklist. You can use these checklists as a sticker chart as well, whatever your student prefers!

    3. A bonus file: comprehension questions. This file includes a worksheet of comprehensions questions to go along with "My Sign Language Interpreter Social Story." There are ten questions with pictures from the social story that help students understand what they should do in certain scenarios. This is an easy activity to just print, there is no preparation involved!
