Activity to Foster Culinary Interests - Celebrate Cultural Diversity


Food is a universal language. Food brings people together and celebrates cultures. Food is something EVERYONE can get excited about!

This Icebreaker activity is perfect for the first day (or week) of a class that teaches about food, nutrition, cooking, culture, diversity, or just wants to get to know students in a clever, unique way.

The goal is to "break the ice" with students while exploring their personal backgrounds and cultures through a common human experience - EATING! Through the completion of this lesson, students will begin building a sense of community. This lesson also sets the stage for future cooking and recipe-related activities throughout the course.

Suitable for Grades: 7th, 8th 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th

Subject Appropriateness: Family and Consumer Science, Home Economics, Life Skills, Cooking, Nutrition, ENL, ESL, Cultural Diversity, General Education
