Teach students to appreciate music and poetry of the Harlem Renaissance! This resource includes:

  • a power-up activity where students determine whether a quote comes from Harlem Renaissance poetry or a hip hop song
  • background information on famous jazz composer Duke Ellington
  • an instrument play-along to "It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing"
  • brief introduction of how music is organized into measures, meter, and note values
