What educators are saying

We've been learning about the influence of music on society. The lessons were very in depth and activities were a great reflection piece for students to complete.
This was a great resource to use with students. It got them to think about how music is all around us. The music examples that were part of the activity were great.

Description

Help your students delve into the powerful influence of music on individuals, communities, and culture, uncovering the transformative power of this universal language. This lesson and supporting resources provide an extremely detailed account of music’s important role within all of society and different cultures from around the world. At the heart of this unit lies the idea that music constantly interacts with society rather than simply being a disconnected static art form unrelated to anything else. This resource is perfect for teachers looking to incorporate modern cultural elements into their music curriculum while also helping students develop skills relevant to the wider music industry.

Goes perfectly with "Music and Society - GROWING RESOURCE BUNDLE!"

All material, presentations and worksheets, within this resource have been recently updated and now include links to online 'Distance Learning' versions through Google Slides™. This allows extra flexibility and continued support if students are learning and engaging from outside the classroom at home.

This resource is closely related and connects extremely well with other lectures and resources from within the bundle; “Music and Sound within Society”, lessons like “Generations and Their Music”, "Music in Politics", "Music Censorship", “Culture Industry” and "Music in Advertising".

This detailed lecture/presentation, along with all the learning resources would provide a great outline of music’s important role within different aspects of society and how people use music in daily life.

The material in these resources would easily cover 4 to 5 lessons over roughly 3 or 4 weeks. The presentation covers the development and use of music throughout society with a total of 33 slides. Moreover, there are over 30 embedded videos throughout the lesson linking to YouTube and providing an excellent addition to the resource.

This resource also comes with 5 classroom tasks and research exercises that can be completed alongside the lesson/presentation or used for additional homework or for supporting class projects on this subject. Each of these tasks comes in a “No Style”, black and white printout or an attractive, “Styled” version to help engage learners.

Finally, there is the presentation in video format. This can be used to aid learning, shared with smartphones and tablets, and used as a convenient resource for learners to watch back and revisit the presentation.
