Description
This 18-slide PowerPoint presentation has everything you need to introduce your students to constructing major scales. This PowerPoint also has embedded audio clips to demonstrate certain key concepts. This is the first of my 2-part series on Major Scales (part 2 is here). Designed for virtual and blended learning environments, it can be disseminated electronically to students to study on their own or used in class for face-to-face lecture. This PowerPoint covers Topics 1.3 and 1.4 from the AP Music Theory Course and Exam Description.
In addition to detailed descriptions, there are many illustrations to aid in understanding. Slides include:
- half and whole step review
- accidentals and enharmonic tones
- the major tetrachord (WWH)
- constructing the major scale (WWHWWWH)
- notes on spelling scales
- strategies for building scales
- practice scale-building and answers revealed
- scale degree names (tonic, supertonic, mediant, etc.)
- vocabulary terms related to scales
