Description

This 14-slide PowerPoint presentation has everything you need to introduce your students to more advanced rhythm and meter concepts. This PowerPoint is full of embedded audio clips to demonstrate each concept. This is the second part of my 2-part series on Rhythm and Meter (part 1 is here). Designed for virtual and blended learning environments, it can be disseminated electronically to students to study on their own or used in class for face-to-face lecture. This PowerPoint covers Topics 1.8 and 1.9 from the AP Music Theory Course and Exam Description, and also reviews concepts presented in Topics 1.2, 1.6, and 1.7.

In addition to detailed descriptions, there are many diagrams to aid in understanding. Slides include:

  • notation
  • metric pulse
  • time signatures
  • syncopation
  • irregular/asymmetrical meters
  • polymer, mixed meter, and tuplets
  • hemiola
  • tempo and tempo changes
