    Description

All the best Choir and Music Class ‘Do Nows’, ‘Bell Ringers’, ‘Daily Board Work’ – call them what you want but these beginning of class activities are bundled here and will keep your students engaged as you won't have to do the same type every day. One for every other day of the year or a full semester class (plus some!), these ‘Do Nows’ offer a variety that will keep your students engaged in musical thought. These will allow you time to take attendance, check in with students, etc. at the beginning of class and provide a routine for the students.

    Volume 1:

    PowerPoints included are:

*Listening higher level thinking questions (choral examples are given)

*Musical Symbol Drawing activities - students can demonstrate their knowledge of things they’ll find in a musical score by drawing instead of plain old definitions

*Musical Quotes with higher level thinking questions

*Thesaurus Title Songs – a selection of some of the most time tested popular song titles have been redone with synonyms (each one has a clue)

*Rhythm Fill In and Measure Mistake activities – students need to complete the measure or find the mistake

    Volume 2:

    PowerPoints included are:

    Listening & Questions #2

Students will be able to hear some more great choral music (an example is given or you can use your own) and write a response to the question. Higher level thinking skills are put to work as they pull from their own personal experience and opinions.

    Rhythms #2

Remember your college days and clapping and counting rhythms? Everyone has to start somewhere. These rhythms use whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth notes and rests. I have my students copy them on their Daily Board Work paper and write in the counting underneath. Then we go over them together.

    Scrambled Italian Terms

Who doesn’t like a good word scramble? These terms are ones your students will probably be familiar with. It can be a great way to keep them in their minds and to point out in your music. Separated into similar words together, the first letter of the word is capitalized to help them get going. Don’t worry, the answers are on the slide after the scramble!

    Think About it Questions

Here are some thinkers for your students about being a performer and singing. They will allow students to put themselves in a performers shoes and think about the famous people they look up to. Or, maybe why being up on stage isn’t for them. Be sure to let your students know up front what you expect in their response.

    Volume 3:

    Musical Theatre Fake Titles

A title from a popular musical has been rewritten. Students must use the synonyms and clues to figure out the real title. Your students will be singing these as they leave class. 25 slides (There are so many great songs, I couldn’t stop at 20!)

    Music Symbol Drawing Challenge

Knowing rhythms will help your students read music better. In this set, students are given a rhythm and must figure out the time signature (2/4, 3/4, 4/4) and put in bar lines. Don’t worry, I’ve included the time signature answer so you can pop it up as needed. 20 slides

    Which Word Will You Choose?

In these Bell Ringers, students are given a sentence and must fill in the blank with one of the three given answers. Then, students can use the other two words correctly in their own sentences. Full of common music vocabulary these Bell Ringers will build student confidence in recognizing and using terms correctly. 20 slides

    Who is it?

Students will need to put what they know about some famous (current and oldies but goodies) artist’s to work. Using the clues, they can try to figure out who the artist is. These are sure to get students thinking and you may want to have them come up with their own! Check out the preview. 20 slides

Looking for projects beyond the beginning of class? You'll want to get these for your classes!
