Music Beat & Rhythm Activity for Primary! Counting Ta + Ti-Ti with audio

My 1st graders flipped for this Apartment Animals interactive PowerPoint activity that reinforces steady beat and counting quarter note and eighth note rhythms. It's useful for teaching beat vs. rhythm because there are whole-body movements involved.

The animals are used as rhythmic syllables and students clap or play instruments to animal patterns. It works perfectly with pentatonic Orff/pitched instruments.

Each quarter note is "cat" and each beamed 8th note is "rabbit." The rhythms gradually change into standard notation, so by the end of the PowerPoint, they will be counting simple rhythms. This resource is meant to be used over several lessons and can be repeated many times. I make it a game for the class to be able to perform each slide perfectly before moving on the next slide.

There is even a metronome mp3 file that's embedded into the game if you would like to challenge them to stay on beat. There are also 2 slides where the class can play 1 minute of "Freeze Dance" for performing the rhythmic slides correctly.
