About the Multiplying and Dividing Fractions Resource
The resource is divided into these specific sections for each specific skill. The skills are listed in a recommended progression.
- Multiplying Whole Numbers by Fractions – This is similar to what students have done with whole numbers. Students can use equal grouping models or repeated addition to find the answer.
- Multiplying Fractions by Whole Numbers – This begins the instruction that fractions can also be used to show partial groups. For this type of problem, students will be taking a part of a whole.
- Multiplying Fractions by Fractions – Next, students will practice taking part of a part.
- Multiplying with Mixed Numbers – Finally, students are ready to bring all their previous work with multiplying fractions together to tackle multiplying mixed numbers.
- Dividing with Whole Numbers and Unit Fractions – Additionally, students will explore division concepts with fractions and whole numbers.
