Multiplication as Repeated Addition, Equal Groups, and an Array

I created this practice sheet as an alternative to the timed multiplication drill sheets I had used as a student myself. I was seeking a way for students practice their facts in a way that helped them understand the building blocks of multiplication. I wanted my students to internalize what multiplication meant long before they began to memorize the multiplication facts.

So I created this sheet to help them visualize that multiplication comes in many different forms.

Skills addressed:

Writing multiplication in word problems
Using a proper number sentence
Understanding and creating equal groups
Showing multiplication as repeated addition
Creating an array to show multiplication

This activity is organized to allow the student to practice all 5 skills for each multiplication problem provided. It is a Microsoft Word document so it can easily be edited and the numbers changed in order to use it again and again.

I created it while teaching 3rd grade, but since creating it I have moved to both 4th and 5th grade and used it as a supplement with great success!
