What educators are saying

This is amazing! My students are not only getting writing practice but they are sometimes discussing with students that they normally might not. Thank you!
I love how engaging and easy to use this is! The students loved having the brainstorming conversations, but then being able to pick their own top 3 choices. They love having to "defend" their choices and we have had a lot of great discussion. Thank you!

Description

Put some meaningful morning work into your daily routine with these "Top 3 List" activities! Get students discussing engaging topics, creating lists, defending their choices, and analyzing their own and others' decisions.

It's a great way to warm-up students' brains and get the morning started in a fun yet purposeful way.

I provide you with 12 week-long "Top 3 List" topics in a slideshow format (PDF, PowerPoint, and Google Slides versions included) for you to project onto your classroom screen or whiteboard. For example, What are your top 3 favorite recess activities? For each day of the week, students will complete a different task/prompt for that week's topic using the provided weekly record sheet (PDF and Google Slides versions included).

On Monday, they brainstorm ideas with neighbors and create their own Top 3 List. On Tuesday, they defend their #1 answer with a detailed explanation. On Wednesday, they might compare their #2 and #3 answers or expand their list to a fourth answer. On Thursday, students might be asked to pair up with a neighbor, share each other's list, and negotiate to create a new Top 3 list together. And on Friday, the topic is extended in a fun and unique way.

Here are the specifics on what's included in Set One:

  • Teacher Information to help you get started
  • Record Sheets (one weekly record sheet for each of the 12 top-3-list topics; PDF and Google Slides formats)
  • Slideshow (a set of five slides for each of the 12 top-3-list topics; you'll use one slide for each day of the week; PDF, PowerPoint, and Google Slides formats)

Weekly topics include: your top 3... favorite recess activities; yummiest restaurants; traits you look for in a friend; dream jobs; colors you'd dye your hair; coolest superheroes; vacation spots; teams to root for; names for a pet monster; most important school supplies; dipping sauces; book series.
