More, Less, Greater Than, Less Than Quantitative Task for Autism and Special Ed

This quantitative basic concepts task is a very hands-on visual approach to learning concepts of more, less, all, none, greater than, and less than. Students can choose the type of manipulative they would like to use with the choice icons. Manipulative choices include beans, sand, water, blocks, etc.. Staff puts the visual prompt strip on the bottom of the cookie sheet for the concept the student will be working on (“Which is more?”, “Which is less?”, etc…)

Then, staff will choose two numbers to compare. Students will use a scooper or spoon to put that number of scoops into each cup for the numbers compared. For large objects, students can count the actual number of objects and put them in the cup. With blocks or duplos, remove the cup and stack them (Velcro the bottom block down first). Then, the student will move the number icon than represents the correct answer for the quantitative concept (more, less all, none) to the visual sentence strip.

When working on greater or less than, staff will choose the numbers to compare. Students will scoop the correct number of materials into the cups. Then, move the greater or less than alligator or sign in between the numbers.
