Modern Band Bundle

The unit overview includes student learning goals, weekly schedule, learning standards (Missouri), 6 suggested songs with chords that are attainable for complete beginners, further reading to make instruction and differentiation in a modern band class easier, and a short sample syllabus.

Handouts / Cover Pages: These handouts can be utilized for students experiencing a modern band curriculum. Handouts are included for bass guitar, drum set, guitar, keyboard instruments/piano, and ukulele. I hope that you can get as much use out of these as I have! Read below for some examples of how I have used these handouts with various age groups.

I have used the keyboard instruments handout with percussion students in band class ranging from fifth to tenth grade. The students who are less familiar with playing mallet instruments find it very useful! Sometimes I will add in a graphic of the treble clef staff with lines and spaces displaying note names as a further visual aid.

My junior high band students found the drum set handout useful when they were less familiar with setting up the kit--even though we used a simplified version of only hi-hat, snare, and bass drum. A visual reference for where the instruments should be located in reference to each other saved me from helping them with set up in class.

The ukulele handout is especially useful with my elementary students that go through a ukulele unit--often I will print a blank chord chart for them on the back of the handout.
