The language curriculum for Grades 7 and 8 is designed to engage students in tasks they see as meaningful to motivate them to analyze, evaluate, and create texts out of interest and meet curriculum expectations. Ontario's language curriculum encourages students to explore issues related to personal identity and community concerns as they interact with increasingly complex and/or challenging texts. Furthermore, they are encouraged to critically analyze and evaluate texts' perspectives and media's influence on their lives; and to write about and discuss topics of relevance that matter in their daily lives." -Ontario Language Curriculum p. 120

This bundle includes a variety of media meant to spark discussion about various topics, including privilege, gender, stereotypes, prejudice, discrimination, toxic masculinity, sexism, representation, and more. Students will be encouraged to challenge and acknowledge their assumptions and explore different perspectives.

Each lesson has a media literacy prompt, discussion questions to help students engage with the content and express their opinions and ideas, and a wrap-up activity to help them consolidate their learning.

These activities are meant to help students get involved in the conversations from their access points and information levels while learning from others and asking deeper thinking questions.
