Middle School Listening Activities - Creepy Podcasts Bundle

Want fun "scary" activites without the fuss? These four NO PREP, interactive, high-interest podcast activities will captivate your students!

The Creepy & Chilling podcast bundle can be used any time of year. Yes, it is perfect for Halloween, but only one is about Halloween. It includes the following resources:

• Listen-Learn-Write #6: Halloween Candy: This podcast is for anyone who has ever wondered how trick-or-treating for candy got its start.

• Listen-Learn-Write #7: Mary Shelley's Creatures: Learn the fascinating story of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. It's the masterpiece that gave birth to the entire science fiction genre AND has inspired a host of real scientific inventions!

• Listen-Learn-Write #9: Scary Story: This story from The Creeping Hour is a fictional tale of two kids who get more than they bargained for after chasing their dog into the neighborhood "haunted" house.

• Listen-Learn-Write #10: Urban Legends- Sirenhead: Kids will learn what urban legends are and how to spot them. They'll also learn how a popular urban legend called Sirenhead got its start.

The mystery picture and writing activities are terrific for middle school students who need a little extra practice learning to listen for critical information. Students will LOVE the podcast, and they'll be excited to see the hidden picture slowly being revealed as they answer the self-checking multiple-choice questions correctly.

The writing prompts are all EDITABLE, and they provide an excellent way for students to use inference skills combined with creativity. They require kids to integrate information from the podcast into their own writing. Whether used in the classroom or at home, this is an excellent tool for helping students improve their listening and writing skills!

HOW WILL I USE THIS RESOURCE?

Each podcast listening and writing activity is quick to prep and implement because all you have to do is give students the links to the podcast audio and the activity. That's it! You can choose to do the hidden picture AND the writing tasks, or you can do just one or the other. Then you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

You can assign this at any time of the school year. However, it would be particularly great to use one of these as a Halloween activity.

HOW LONG WILL EACH LESSON TAKE?

Part 1: Podcast and Self-Checking Mystery Picture: about 25-35 minutes

Part 2: Writing: This will take another 15-20 minutes or can be a bit longer if you review the answers and have students share the creative writing part.

Bonus Writing Extension: This part enables students to continue learning, and can take 10-20 minutes.
