Description

The purpose of this activity is to provide an engaging enrichment activity for students learning about the metric system. This activity is meant to move your students away from more worksheets to using their creativity by thinking of a booth idea for Metric City’s Annual Booth Fair. This could be used as an enrichment activity at the beginning of the unit for early finishers, or as a culminating activity for the whole class!

Materials Included:

- Teacher Tips Handout (1-page)

- Booth Approval Guidelines (1-page)

- Booth Committee Approval Form (1-page)

- Metric System Tip Sheet (1-page)

- Student Booth and Questions Examples

Materials Needed:

- Plain white paper for booth illustration and advertisement

- Colored pencils, markers, or crayons

- Loose-leaf paper for story problems

- Student handout with metric conversions (optional; not provided)

Here are some of the teacher tips too!

- Introduce this project at the beginning of your unit on metric measurement.

- Get students motivated by brainstorming with your students on some possibilities for booths such as soft drinks, video games, crafts, baked goods, etc.

- If you wanted to create an example ahead of time, this would be a great time to share it. Be sure to take pictures of some of the projects to share with next year’s class.

- Hand out the Booth Approval Guidelines to students and discuss.

- Let them know when the project is due.
