Description

Mentor writing gives students a chance to look closely at how their favorite author's carefully plan their sentences and make books interesting.

By looking at mentor sentences in Laura Numeroff's, If You Give a ______ a ______ series, students will be able to create their own sentences and develop these sentences into their own narrative writing.

Through the use of modeling, shared writing, partner and individual work, students will model their writing off Laura Numeroff's mentor texts.

I used this unit as a supplemental when my students were learning about contractions. The mentor sentences used include a contraction. However, this is not a unit solely for the use of teaching contractions.

This unit will work with any of these mentor texts:

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie
If You Give a Pig a Pancake
If You Give a Dog a Donut
If You Give a Cat a Cupcake
If You Give a Moose a Muffin

You do not need all of the books. Any of the books may be used for this unit. Different pages are provided that match each book.

Please take a look at the preview to see this unit more in depth.

Thank you for looking at my products.
