Description

I created this power point because students come to the library not knowing what the numbers on the sides of the books are. So, I decided to show them why the Dewey Decimal system is so important in the library or else every library would be a mess. Who know how we would find books if it weren't for Melvil Dewey.

This presentation has a total of 20 slides.

  • 1-5: Asks questions about how we would look for books if there wasn't a system. Critical thinking skills. Then, it tells students Melvil Dewey was the solution to library chaos with background info on him.
  • 6-19: Consists of fun pop questions to see if students are paying attention and going over the 10 number groups in the Decimal System.
  • 20: Slide 20 shows them what the nonfiction call numbers look like in the library and how I would expect them to know how to sort their books when returning. (Editable slide)

You can print out the numbered slides and paste as posters around your library or classroom!

**You can accompany this lesson with "Order in the Library" game for fun with the kiddos.
