Description

Start the year off right by introducing key concepts that will be embedded throughout the year! This resource set will both get you started and provide key activity choices that will get students analyzing major concepts.

Did you know that all of Instructomania's content is grounded in key concept G.R.A.P.E.S.? That's right! From the introduction all the way to the assessments the key concepts are embedded!

Unfamiliar with the acronym G.R.A.P.E.S.? The key concepts or G.R.A.P.E.S for World History are geography, religion, achievements, government/leadership, economy, and social classes.  When students build a foundation with the key concepts, they develop analysis skills and create easy ways to compare civilizations throughout the year!

What’s included:

1. INTRODUCTION POWERPOINT (15 SLIDES WITH DISCUSSION QUESTIONS) - The PowerPoint has great visuals and discussion questions. It's COMPLETELY EDITABLE!

2. INTRODUCTION POWERPOINT GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS AND DAY 1 LESSON - Students engage by completing a graphic organizer during instruction. Then, students complete a worksheet that has the year in preview, matching key concepts to civilizations that will be learned about. Lastly, students complete the My World doodle style notes activity that has them compare their lives to the key concepts. This activity is engaging and is FANTASTIC to hang on walls at the beginning of the year!

3. BIG IDEAS FOLDABLE- A great graphic organizer that can be used with ANY unit of instruction. Students summarize in fun ways, draw pictures, and support the main idea with supporting text.

4. THE BIGGEST IDEA WORKSHEET- Students analyze which key concepts are most important for the unit of study and answer compelling questions with supporting text. This assignment also has students share what can be learned from the civilization in order to better lives today.

5. LINKING BIG IDEAS- Students analyze how the big ideas were linked or complimented each other in the civilization. For example, geography often determines the types of natural resources traded. Students draw valuable connections!

6. BIG IDEA STORYBOARD ACTIVITY- Students draw pictures and create analysis for all of the key concepts. This assignment is creative and great to keep for reference at the end of the year!

7. BIG IDEA WRITING GUIDES- Students use a choice of two writing guides to respond to a teacher-generated question or compelling question that is provided in the materials. Students use a template to craft a paragraph response complete with evidence, reasoning, and citation. A peer evaluation and teacher evaluation rubric is included

8. CLASS POSTERS- Two to choose from!

9. Teacher notes are included!
