Description
This measurement STEM project is integrated with social studies as students learn about famous world structures! Students will learn simple and fun facts about structures around the world!! After learning about famous structures, they will come up with a blue print of a structure that has to be: 12 inches tall, free standing, and strong. ( Encourage students to make the base of the structure a shape. Just like the famous pyramids in Egypt they always had a perfect square base. That's what made it a triangular pyramid)
Materials can include tooth picks, gum drops, tape, construction paper, toilet paper rolls, popsicle sticks, foil, straws, cups, and more.
Students will build independently, or with a partner. It must be 12 inches tall and be free standing. You can test this by measuring with a ruler, and blowing a small fan to make sure it is a strong, stable structure.
After students are done building, they will display their structures around the classroom and comment on the student comment papers (This helps build classroom community).
Students can then present their project, and record on their reflection log. This should take about 2-3 days.
