Description

Thank you for viewing my products!

This is a 13 slide SmartBoard for measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode, and range). I used it for grade 4, but really it could be adapted to fit many grades (3-7). I noticed the current Common Core Standards have measures of central tendency in 6th grade and 7th grade. This could be a good introduction to 6.SP.5 or 7.SP.4. The lesson includes an anticipatory set, rationale, direct instruction (with vocabulary), guided practice, checks for understanding, closure, and homework/independent practice.

I incorporate a lot of cooperative learning strategies in my lessons, so here is a quick rundown of how to use them:

Sage-n-Scribe (with partners)- One partner is the sage (talker), the other is the scribe (writer). The sage stands up and tells the scribe how to solve the problem. If the scribe agrees, they write it down. If the disagree, he/she coaches. They switch on the next problem.

Timed-Pair-Share (with partners)- Teacher sets the timer for the appropriate amount of time to answer the question (30 seconds or so). The first partner has the entire time to answer their question. After the timer goes off, the other partner gets the same amount of time to answer their question. Normally I make the 2 questions similar, but not the same; that way they don't just copy an answer.
