Description

Need an activity to entertain and teach at the same time?  All you need is the scavenger hunt form and a working camera, phone, tablet or pin camera.  Since almost all students and kids either have cell phones or tablets this is an extremely easy and accessible activity.

We used this activity to work on math concepts so our kids also used a ruler.

We ran this activity with our 8 and 10 year old outside.  They took the pictures with their tablets.  The total activity time was about an hour.  You can make it longer or shorter depending on difficultly of the items to capture and how many you want.

We gave points for finishing first as well as how creative the picture was.   After the scavenger hunt was done we went inside and viewed the photos on our TV with an HDMI cord hooked into the tablet.  We judged each picture and awarded points.  The winner received a prize.

Materials Needed:

  • A device that takes pictures
  • Ruler
  • Scavenger hunt checklist
  • The area the scavenger hunt will take place

Activity Time:

  • From 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on age and difficulty

Instructions:

Give out camera, ruler and scavenger hunt list.  You may set a time limit for added fun.  Let the kids go then view/grade the photos when everyone is done together.  Let the kids explain their photos.

This activity worked extremely well and is highly adaptable.  We will be doing it again.
