What educators are saying

This. Was. AWESOME!! I was looking for a way to incorporate more writing into math, and these were perfect. They really allowed my students to show what they knew and explain to reach deeper understanding.
Thank you for putting into words what I cannot. I found them very useful and wished you had them for every TEKS in 5th grade. Maybe a future item for you to make.

    Description

This BUNDLE of 250 Common Core Aligned Math Journal Response Prompts will bring closure to all of your math lessons. The purpose of these quick formative assessments is to check for understanding and keep your students accountable for articulating their mathematical thinking.

Included in this set are 250 response journal prompts that target conceptual understanding of place value, fractions, measurement & volume, geometry, coordinate planes, algebra and MORE.

In addition, two more sets will be added at no cost to you if you purchase NOW! Coming soon: Decimals and Whole Number Operations journal response prompts.

    How to use:

After each lesson, find the journal prompt that best matches your daily learning target (or use a blank one at the end to create your own). Copy and slice out enough journal prompts for your entire class to attach to their math notebooks (or print one and project it for your students to copy into their math notebooks). Send students off to work with a purpose to focus their daily math practice. They can write their response during practice time (which saves time) or at the conclusion of math class. Lastly, give your students time to share with a partner to practice articulation skills.

Best of all, you can collect (spot check) math notebooks to inform your instruction, give grades, gather data, and discuss during math conferences and small groups. No longer will your students be able to hide in the corner during class and fake understanding. They will be held accountable daily for understanding the learning target, responding, and sharing their response with a partner and the class.

Good Luck! I hope you find these journal prompts as powerful and helpful as I have!

Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems.
Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8). Use operations on fractions for this grade to solve problems involving information presented in line plots. For example, given different measurements of liquid in identical beakers, find the amount of liquid each beaker would contain if the total amount in all the beakers were redistributed equally.
Recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement.
Measure volumes by counting unit cubes, using cubic cm, cubic in, cubic ft, and improvised units.
Relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real world and mathematical problems involving volume.
