What educators are saying

My students had so much fun with this project base learning. This resource is a great way to get them engaged in learning and working collaboratively to plan out their zoo!
This was such a fun and engaging project! We took several days to complete it. Days 1 & 2 they designed their map, then days 3 & 4 they completed the individual animal encounters. It was great review of area and perimeter!

Recognize area as an attribute of plane figures and understand concepts of area measurement.
A square with side length 1 unit, called “a unit square,” is said to have “one square unit” of area, and can be used to measure area.
Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
Recognize area as additive. Find areas of rectilinear figures by decomposing them into non-overlapping rectangles and adding the areas of the non-overlapping parts, applying this technique to solve real world problems.
