Description

This is a great way to start math class. Get the students thinking numerically as they complete this poster by using numerical representations of themselves. Included is a directions sheet with example ideas for students, the poster template, and a scoring guide. I like to start the year using scoring guides because it lets students know that I have high expectations of them, even with a fun activity.

This activity is also great because it gives you an idea of student levels because it is naturally differentiated. The directions challenge students to use higher level thinking and use at least 3 numerical representations that require calculation (i.e. the percentage or fraction of your life you have been in school, or the year you were born written in expanded form). This will give you an idea of what your students are able to do, and what their instructional level is.

This will go a long way in setting the tone for your math class, and getting the students excited about numbers on the first day!
