Great resource to learn about an important leader! They enjoyed this during whole group discussion and loved the pictures that went along with the sentences.
Description
Finding nonfiction materials at an appropriate level for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day for young students is always difficult!! With that thought in mind, I created this little book about Martin Luther King for MLK Day in kindergarten (or first grade) classrooms!!
This book has one fact per page with illustrations to support young readers. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text.
Title Page: Martin Luther King, Jr.
Page 2: Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15th.
Page 3: He was born in Atlanta, Georgia.
Page 4: He wanted to be a preacher, like his dad.
Page 5: He gave a famous speech.
Page 6: In his speech, he told about his dream.
Page 7: He wanted everyone to treat each other fairly.
Page 8: He won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Page 9: We celebrate Martin Luther King Day in January.
As you can see, this book is more difficult than the other emergent readers that I usually post; however, with opportunties for shared reading, kindergarteners can read this book successfully and learn about Martin Luther King, Jr. This book would also be great for first graders around MLK Day!!
This book includes the same text on both the top and bottom of each sheet of paper to make copying, sorting, stapling, and cutting easy to create a class set of little books!!
