What educators are saying

Literally, one of my favorite resources that I have purchased on TPT. Every year I use this to give my students practice in a wide array of math skills. Even my students who could care less about basketball enjoy this activity. I am so grateful that this is updated every year!
My child is begging to do this again! Can’t wait for the tournament to start just to do this project again!

Description

Note: If you buy this project once - it will be updated EVERY YEAR for the March Madness Tournament FOR FREE!!!! It is only a one time purchase!

LAST UPDATE: MARCH 17th 2024

THIS PRODUCT IS READY FOR THE 2024 March Madness NCAA Tournament!!

Everyone loves this time of year, why you ask, because of MARCH MADNESS of course!!!

Every year the best tournament in sports comes around. College basketball runs a 68 team (well, really 64 teams) single elimination tournament for all the best teams in the sport. Kids are obsessed with this tournament and will love any type of work that revolves around it!

This project is common core aligned specifically for math. Better yet - I have differentiated this project into 4 different levels and can be given to 2nd graders or above!

The following are examples of what your students will be working on during the project.

*Problem Solving

*Reasoning and Strategic Thinking

*Multiplication

*Addition

*Subtraction

*Different Forms of Numbers (Word, Standard)

Brief Summary:

In this project, students will be given a budget of $1,000,000 to buy 5 teams from the tournament field. Each team has a specific price based on how well they are expected to play. Students must strategically buy their teams while balancing risk with reward.

Once they pick their 5 teams, their main activity will be tracking them through the tournament and calculating points each team earns in every game based on certain stat categories. This project comes with easy to follow directions with examples on how to complete the project.

What is included?

1.) Differentiation sheet - This sheet explains which level is appropriate for your students

*I have included 4 different "levels" - which is a way I differentiate the same project for different grades or students. Each level has a similar foundation to the project, but appropriate for different ages.

*For example - the first 2 levels work with numbers only up to the thousands, but levels 3/4 work with numbers up to one million!

2.) Introduction + Directions to the project

*Includes team prices

*Includes sheet to list teams + calculate budget

3.) Recording Sheets

*A sheet to calculate points for each game - 2 versions - (w/ directions + example)

*A sheet to record points earned by each team (w/ directions + example)

*A sheet to record your overall points (w/ directions + example)

4.) Directions on how to look up statistics from games online

It is basically like any fantasy sports league - however, the students will be calculating the points on their own! And they LOVE it!!!

They also love having a competition within their class, with their teacher, and with the other classes around the school!!

My kids absolutely LOVE this project, I hope yours do as well!

Love this product so much? Now try my new March Madness Multiplier Challenge! Great addition to this project with the same fantasy sports spin! This project includes a graphing and writing supplemental activities!!!
