Map Symbols

This social living Promethean flipchart for Activ Board teaches students how to create symbols to demonstrate on a map. The lesson opens with with a dollar sign, in which the teacher can have students to use their critical thinking by asking what it is, and what it represents, and why we have this symbol to represent money. Then, the teacher can drag the symbol out of the way to reveal what it represents. Next, it lists the objectives to be covered in the lesson. Then it moves on to vocabulary terms: map and symbol, along with the definition and visual representations of the terms. The next slide provides a link to streaming video of symbols (if your system permits the file) for you to show to your class. Next, is a link to a website of a map of Louisiana. Next, is a map of a classroom demonstrating the use of symbols (which you can adjust to the look of your classroom). Last is a review page to allow for review and closure of the lesson.
