What educators are saying

This resources was great for my grade 1-3 students. I used it for student practice when we were discussing maps. It had a lot of information and activities for them to complete. It was easy enough to do that even my lowest learners could complete with minimal support.
I love this book, and the activites in this resource matched perfectly with what I wanted my students to learn. Thank you!

How do I use this map skills unit?

Begin by accessing students’ background knowledge about maps and globes by having a class discussion about where they have seen or used maps. Follow up with the PowerPoint slideshow, which can be read aloud in one sitting or can be used across several days. Young children will need time to discuss the information as it is presented, so be sure to build in time for conversations and questions!

The follow-up map skills printable activities can be used in any order (and you can pick and choose those that are most appropriate for your learners and standards). Some of the activities lend themselves to whole or small-group completion because students will need to listen to and follow directions as they work. The “Write the Map” and “Find it on the Map” activities, however, are perfect for integrating social studies into your center time as these are activities most children can work on independently.

The digital map skills activities and videos can be assigned to students as homework as a way to keep families connected to what’s going on in the classroom. They can also be used at a technology center in your classroom or computer lab.
