Manufacturing Processes Overview Lesson Slideshow

What educators are saying
Description
This slideshow is a broad overview of different manufacturing processes. It highlights 41+ different ways that raw materials are processed into more useful goods in industry. It is a great primer for students studying principles of engineering, manufacturing, CIM, or materials processing.
These slides categorize the processes into one of seven groups, forming, separating/machining, molding, assembly/joining, additive manufacturing, heat treatment, and finishing. For each process, a brief overview is provided which aims to distinguish the process from other similar ones. Each process also includes a short youtube video which shows the process in greater detail with more explanation. It isn't meant to be a deep dive into any particular process, but to build students' understanding of the ways in which parts and products are made so they understand what is possible from an engineering perspective.
There are a few ways you might use this slideshow:
- I have delivered this lesson to my students directly, but personally, I find that it is far too much information to absorb in one long direct lesson.
- Students each research two of the processes and put together their own presentation slides on it, and I use this presentation to fill in the blanks for topics students did not choose.
- This slideshow makes a great comprehensive review/study resource, rather than sending students to study from other students' research projects.
- Present one or two of the processes each day over a longer period of time.
- This slideshow could be shared with students, and they could work in groups to become "experts" on one of the seven categories listed above, and present the category as a group.
As an added bonus, this slideshow contains a link to my Kahoot review game for manufacturing processes, which quizzes students on recognizing the processes shown in the slideshow.
