Magic and the Brain- HMH Collections Bundle
- Google Drive™ folder
Description
Looking for a way to engage your students while reading a complex text like Magic and the Brain?
This bundle focuses on the objective for the magazine article with activities to supplement the text. The objective of the reading is that students will be able to analyze how text features contribute to a text and to summarize text objectively. Below you will find an activity for engagement, summarizing, text features, and a check for understanding exit tickets.
Use the introduction activity Pear Deck with the "Blind Spot" challenge to engage students and introduce the topics further studied in the magazine article.
The bundle also includes a text feature scavenger hunt document to help engage students while looking for text features in context.
Also included is a graphic organizer that can be used alongside reading to jot down notes. This can also be used in conjunction with the Introduction Pear Deck where students are asked to summarize each section on sticky notes. They can put the sticky notes onto the graphic organizer to help them with the objective summary they are asked to write at the end of the reading.
Also included is a google doc that is ready to print for an exit ticket to check comprehension at the end of reading. Print out the document, put sticky notes on the grid lines provided, then copy the other page onto the sticky notes for an easy-to-read exit ticket! Make sure to use the pull out drawer and face the adhesive side toward the printer so as to not cause any damage to the machine.
Last product that is included is a vocabulary "Story Chain." This activity can be used before reading to build background or after as a check for understanding. Directions are provided on the page for students. This is a nice way to check for comprehension as well as practice in writing.
