MLK Listening Comprehension

Martin Luther King Jr. Day Listening and Vocabulary
Created by Danielle Cavallaro, M.A., CCC-SLP for my deaf/hard of hearing elementary and high school students.

I work as a speech-language pathologist in an elementary and high school. All of the students on my caseload have a hearing loss and language delays. Several of their IEP goals include listening for details and increasing vocabulary. I created this lesson with my students in mind, but I hope you are able to use it with your students as well!

Activities:
Listening Comprehension:
The student chooses a “wh” question card. Teacher/therapist reads aloud the short paragraph to the student. The teacher can ask a “wh” question, or the student can recall a detail from the paragraph that corresponds to the “wh” question card. Another option is for
the student to lay out all of the “wh” cards and retell the key details from the paragraph.

Vocabulary:
Review the vocabulary words and definitions. Students match definition with word. Teacher/therapist can expand as needed.
