Fantastic Curriculum

When I first started teaching the Lucy Calkins Units of Study, my challenges were many and my answers were few. But that’s because I hadn’t read the books. I immediately set out on a quest to make the most of this new and awesome curriculum! 

I am not going to lie and tell you it was all rainbows and sunshine. I had a hard time. I was trying to balance school, work outside of work, spend quality time with my family, and all of the things that nobody figures in to anything when they decide to be a loving teacher who wants to be a kid’s hero. Students really like this unit! Although this unit is a writing unit, there is a lot of reading involved with it. There are also a lot of points where we made mistakes when teaching it the first time. But, of the four 4th grade writing units, it is the one with the most helpful teacher notes embedded within it.
