    Description

This Kate Chopin lesson bundle includes three great activities for teaching students about the life and biography of Kate Chopin and helping them analyze her famous short story, "A Pair of Silk Stockings." The highly engaging, CCSS aligned Kate Chopin biography activity is designed to look like an Instagram profile/post that students fill out using their own research on the author. The short story worksheet helps students analyze basic literary elements of Chopin's story as well as her use of figurative language. The final activity, a digital or printable gallery walk, helps students collaboratively discuss important quotes from "A Pair of Silk Stockings." Together, the three activities provide three days worth of instruction on the famous literary figure, Kate Chopin, as well as her famous short story, "A Pair of Silk Stockings."

    This product includes:

    - A highly engaging, Instagram themed worksheet that guides students as they research various aspects of the life and work Kate Chopin

    - A CCSS aligned worksheet with two separate activities that teach basic literary analysis and inferencing skills

    - A gallery walk activity that includes key quotes from "A Pair of Silk Stockings" and higher-level discussion questions to promote collaborative learning

    - A beautifully designed PDF copy of "TA Pair of Silk Stockings"

    - Clear teacher instructions, tips, and suggestions

    A quick note:

I have found that these activities are a great way to introduce students to the life and work of Kate Chopin. Typically, I start with the biography activity on the first day of teaching to get them interested in the author. After that, we read the short story and spend the next two days working on the analysis activities. I enjoy reading the story with them, assigning the analysis worksheet as homework, and doing the gallery walk together as a class. Of course, the materials are flexible enough that you can do them in any order or form you like, and they can be extended to encourage in-depth discussion and analysis.
