How to use this Literature Circles Bundle:

Foster student inquiry and encourage peer-to-peer discussion using these resources for student-led book clubs!

Introducing Literature Circle Roles and Procedures

Each student can receive a package that includes a copy of the literature circle roles, the task chart, individual worksheets for each role, and copies of each rubric for personal reference.  Each group can receive a folder with dividers for each meeting.  Within each divider, you can include the peer rubric handout so that students have it on hand at the end of each meeting.

Students can read through the literature circle roles and the assessment guidelines in the rubrics to gain an understanding of the expectations for this unit.  You can then walk students through the Task Chart graphic organizer.

    Assessment Guidelines

This resource includes a participation rubric for teacher use.  The ready-to-print version of this rubric uses grade percentages to distinguish between each grade level.  An editable version of this rubric has been provided in order to align these grade levels to your curriculum.  To implement the participation rubric, you can sit in on meetings at random and evaluate students.

A peer rubric has also been included for students to provide feedback based on their classmates' participation; this feedback can be used to make adjustments to individual grades if need be.

Additionally, resources have been provided to facilitate group discussions.  An engaging final assessment is also included for this literature circles unit.
