Linear Functions Interpret Rate of Change in Real World Situations

Linear Functions Interpret Rate of Change in Real World Situations, has 10 different real world situations that require students to think critically about linear functions. The real world situations get more challenging as students progress through each situation.

TPT buyers said, "Great resource.", "Great resource. I like particularly how they get more challenging.", "Real world applicable material is always great. Thanks!". "Great resource!"

Your students will interpret the meaning of rate of change and x- and y-intercepts in real world situations. They will model the real world situations as graphs, tables, and linear equations. Your students will respond to questions asking them how the equations would change given different real world y-intercepts and rates of change.

Some of the situations start with a table, some with a graph, some with an equation, and some with a word problem. Some of the real world situations ask students to compare rates of change and y-intercepts.

This product is the perfect activity to use before using my Summer Jobs Project.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Recognize and represent proportional relationships between quantities.
Decide whether two quantities are in a proportional relationship, e.g., by testing for equivalent ratios in a table or graphing on a coordinate plane and observing whether the graph is a straight line through the origin.
Identify the constant of proportionality (unit rate) in tables, graphs, equations, diagrams, and verbal descriptions of proportional relationships.
For a function that models a relationship between two quantities, interpret key features of graphs and tables in terms of the quantities, and sketch graphs showing key features given a verbal description of the relationship.
Calculate and interpret the average rate of change of a function (presented symbolically or as a table) over a specified interval. Estimate the rate of change from a graph.
