Leveled Open Ended Question Cards For Differentiated Reading Comprehension
Description
Use these higher order questioning cards for lesson planning or to help your students develop their own questions. The cards are based on leveled questioning from Blooms' Taxonomy and Webb's Depth of knowledge (DOK). Open ended questions are sure to engage your students and enhance critical thinking. They are appropriate for any content area.
This set of six cards are color coded and leveled from low to high cognitive challenge.
You get 6 color coded cards on two pages. Cut them out or keep them whole.
Some suggested uses:
1) Keep a set in front of you while you’re lesson planning to help you create questions of differing cognitive challenge.
2) Print a set of color cards out on white card stock and laminate them (print double sided). After a reading, give one card to each student or group. Have the students develop questions using the question stems. Challenge the students to create questions from each level. Then, allow the students to exchange the questions and produce an oral or written response for the question.
3) Print the cards in color and cut them so you have a set of six separate cards. Divide your class into six groups. After a reading, novel study, literature circle, or any other pertinent activity, hand a different color card to each group. Have each group develop questions based on their color card. This is great for differentiation – give the most challenging level to your advanced group and vice versa. You can then use the student created questions to develop a quiz, discussion, or Socratic Seminar.
