Description

Letterland, Letterland, there is no better land! If you have this stuck in your head and you teach early learners, this is the packet for you!

In Letterland, Quarrelsome Queen always has to have U beside her to protect her beautiful hair. This is introduced earlier in the K manual than the Grade One manual. Students will benefit from being introduced to this sound early on in their reading. (Page 16 of the LL K Manual, Page 77 Unit 7 of the Grade One LL Manual)

I wanted to make sure my students understood that q and u must be together to make a word and become used to hearing the sound qu words make. I made up this story about the queen and Uppy Umbrella.

Use the color version to read the students the story on the smartboard or document camera. Many Kinders will not be able to follow along, but you can have the black and white version on their desks if you want. For First Grade I have the black and white books printed and on their desk. They can read along or just listen to the story and read and color later.

For both grades I have given out the Headband in a center while teaching the LL manual lesson on Day 1. All students can wear this Headband while listening to the story as you read it. (this is good for a volunteer to read while you are doing small groups) Day 2 the book can be in a center along with the writing sheet and/or the QU Words sheet.

The writing part should be modeled first on the smartboard or document camera. Have different students complete the sentence or you can first.

This is a supplement to use with the Letterland Phonics Program. This will not be helpful if you do not use the Letterland Phonics Program and may actually confuse some learners.

There is one page in the preview so you can see exactly what you will receive. Again, you must have the Letterland Program to use this packet. Thanks so much for shopping with me.
