Lesson Plans: 5 Art Projects for the Italian Classroom

These are lesson plans for projects that are unleveled and can be tweaked to encompass only one session or several sessions, for example, as part of a task-based lesson or a project-based learning unit. Students can conduct their own research online or can read about each topic in resources you provide, to build schema. I would argue that, regardless of proficiency level, the students should attempt to read or listen to materials in Italian, but they can also build schema in English or their native language.

Each project is aligned to the Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate themes as well as organized around a cultural topic and possible driving questions to help you and your students reach the learning goals of gaining key knowledge and understandings and achieving success skills. The questions are challenging but open-ended and broad enough to guide discussion, sustained inquiry, authenticity, student voice and choice, reflection, critique and revision, and lead to a public product that students will be proud to share even outside your class or classroom.
