Description

Counting Forward and Backward: Number Sequences

  • Objective: Students will count forward and backward from any given number between 1 and 20.
  • Activity: Use a number line and have students hop forward and backward while saying the numbers aloud.
  • Engagement: Play a "number hopscotch" game where students jump on numbered squares in sequence.

Standards:

  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.1: Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.A.2: Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).
  • CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.CC.B.4: Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.

Objectives:

  • Students will count backward from any given number between 1 and 20.
