The Layers of the Earth cards and booklets are follow up activities kids can use in lower and upper elementary earth science lessons to have fun learning about the Earth’s composition, layer by layer.
Kids enjoy laying out the cards, then filling in the booklet’s layers of the earth drawings and labels. These are great follow up activities to show mastery of the concepts presented in the lesson.

Ideas for Use
When teaching Lower Elementary, I presented this unit after Sun and Earth and before Work of Wind. In my Upper Elementary classroom, I included this card set in my Geology unit.
There are 2 levels included in this set.
For students just being introduced to the layers of the Earth, the more basic terms are appropriate. They are:
- Earth
- Inner core
- Outer core
- Mantle
- Crust
The more advanced set, which can used WITH the basic set for an older or more advanced child include these terms:
- Barysphere
- Asthenosphere
- Lithosphere
- Hydrosphere
- Biosphere
- Atmosphere
The materials can be used for 5 different activities (listed here from easiest to most difficult:
- Picture - Label Match (check with 2 part control cards)
- Child’s 2 Part Booklet (for the child to color and write in labels to show understanding)
- Picture - Labeled Definition Match (check with 3 part control cards)
