Description

Need help teaching Latin vocab that’s used in everyday English? Need to fill a cultural gap or strengthen their conversational literacy?

Use this 2-day set to teach, practice, and assess 30 commonly-used Latin words, phrases, and abbreviations that still exist in TV/film, the work world, and other grown-up conversations. (I made this lesson when a student didn’t know the term “vice versa”, and it motivated me to ensure that certain words weren’t going to block my students from success!)

Here’s the list of vocab taught (but keep in mind that these files are EDITABLE): ad hoc, ad lib, ad nauseum, alma mater, anno domini, antemortem, a priori, bona fide, carpe diem, caveat emptor, et cetera, exempli gratia (e.g.), id est (i.e.), in absentia, in flagrante delicto, ipso facto, magnum opus, mea culpa, nota bene, per se, persona non grata, postmortem, pro bono, pro tempore, quid pro quo, QED, requiescat in pace, status quo, vice versa, and vox populi.

This 8-page download includes…

• Activity: use as independent, partner/group, or whole class

• Quiz: easy to grade and clearly shows understanding

• Answer Keys for both

• Online Flashcards: premade Quizlet set for flexible use!

• Bonus: Word, Google Docs, and PDF are included!

WAIT! This product is included in my Vocabulary Epic Bundle for Secondary ELA AND my Greek & Latin Roots MEGA Bundle! Check them out to save on ALL of my current and future vocabulary tools!
