This is an 18 question viewing guide for Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: US Territories. This resource thoroughly explains the differences in rights for US citizens living in US territories. Most of this information is unknown to most Americans and will come as a surprise to students. It A link to the video is provided for easy viewing.
How Do I Use This?
This resource is developed for both in-classroom use, where students can watch as a group, or as a homework assignment, where students can watch the video and fill in their questions at their own pace. I use this viewing guide after defining and discussing the rights of citizenship. After viewing, I have students debate what should happen to the people of Puerto Rico, Guam, and American Samoa, the specific territories discussed in the video.
***NOTICE: This viewing guide is only appropriate for Upper High School students, as there is some (barely) bleeped-out language and a brief sexual reference towards the end of the video.
