Description

My students really enjoy this activity for learning and reviewing lab safety rules. Dumb Ways to Die is a popular and clever song and game app for mobile devices. It was initially created to spread awareness for train crossing safety. In this activity students are challenged to change the lyrics of the original song and make it about dumb ways to die in the science lab. By creating lyrics about breaking the science rules, students actually show their knowledge of correct way to be safe in the science lab. A favorite activity for my students! It can be done at any grade level in which lab safety is a concern. I give this handout digitally to my students and they work on laptops but it could easily be printed and written by hand. I use this as an assessment following other activities related to lab safety but it could be used in many other ways.
