What educators are saying

Thanks for this! We watched the doc in my Mass Media class as we discussed the role of the media in creating and perpetuating gender stereotypes. This was a great doc and good questions to guide students.

Description

In “Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric,” an hour and half long TV documentary produced by National Geographic, Couric “sets out to explore the rapidly evolving complexities of gender identity.” The documentary (links to view the doc online for free are included in the worksheet), when accompanied by this text-based questions worksheet which focuses students on the most important aspects of the documentary and asks them to prove their understanding through reasoning and the support of their answers with evidence from the film, is a great way to introduce and explore biological sex verses gender.

This documentary does a thorough, thoughtful, and easy to understand job of explaining the complexities of sex, gender, and gender identity. The documentary clearly defines the biological and sociological components of gender, backs its definitions with research, interviews with specialists in gender, and connections to world cultures and their ideas of gender.
